Website redesign

Projects: Corporate website, Professional Standards Board website

Background

IP Australia is government administration for Intellectual Property rights and legislation in Australia, serving both Australian and international audiences. In recent years, users have criticised the difficulty in navigating and locating relevant information on the corporate website, with similar remarks made of the Professional Standards Board sister site.

My role and activities

Sharing a lead UX design role, Gordon was responsible for synthesising design concepts from the initial research findings, interaction specifications in the prototype development and delivery management of the UX and visual design deliverables.

Approach and solution

  • Shared wireframe template approach for the Corporate and Professional Standards Board websites, reducing design and development costs, and shortening delivery time.
  • The unique branding of the two sites was treated through the visual designs.
  • Iterative design where initial research allowed the team to develop concepts and a prototype, that was then taken into a round of usability testing. The recommendations from the test findings were incorporated into a further revision of the prototype.

Results

Feedback from a second round of user research, involving the use of the revised prototype has been positive.

‘As I said, “It looks like how I would have designed it myself.” Wonderful. What a marvellous improvement. Designed by a clear thinking communicator rather than a clever technician.’Research participant
